South Africa has one of the biggest Trance Festival scenes in the world and the Western Cape, where I live, is no exception to this. There are plenty of parties to go to, throughout the year but the one I have wanted to go to for ages was Rezonance, a New Years Eve Festival from the 31st of December to the 3rd of January. In 2013 I was supposed to go but then I couldn’t at the last moment, so I was unbelievably excited to actually get to go this year!
Trance Parties (if you’re not aware) are festivals or parties that focus on trance music (obvs), but is different from a normal music festival in the way that they all promote the idea of PLUR or Peace, Love, Unity and Respect. It’s very eco, very green and very, very awesome. Rezonance is a big one, and it proved to be amazing. The music didn’t stop for the entire 4 days, the bathrooms (read port loos) were actually not that bad, the food stalls and market were awesome and the decor was absolutely stunning. The line up was insane and I didn’t actually sleep for 3 days because I just didn’t want to go to bed and miss something!
What I personally love the most about Trance parties is the sheer friendliness of everyone there. Everyone is willing to help set up your tent, lend your friend their lighter, help you support your passed out friend to their tent – even if you just met them. Literally dancing within a few metres of someone basically means that you’re friends, and its such a great atmosphere to soak up. Rezonance had an awesome set of facilities this year, with 4 dance floors, 3 campsite, tons of food stalls, a great market, a Rejuvenation Station (showers and proper toilets), yoga classes, a Chill Temple for escaping the sun and a dam for swimming in during the day. I got horribly sun burnt, drank probably way too much, slept way too little and had an amazing New Years Eve.
I didn’t really have much to say about it, just that it was amazing! Sorry for the pretty rubbish post, I’m just still recovering from the awesomeness that was Rez Fest. What did you do for New Years? If you’re in South Africa, have you ever been to a Trance party? If you live somewhere else, I would love to know if there’s a trance scene where you are!
